Joe Thomas

Joe Daniel Thomas COKER - Joe Daniel Thomas, age 75, of Coker, Ala., went home to be with Jesus on July 30, 2016. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends after a long battle with cancer. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at United Full Gospel Church with Rev. Kelly Jolly and Rev. Jemima Jolly officiating. Burial will follow in Pate Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bunk and Willie Hall, who raised him; his mother, Modell Hall Thomas Kirk; his father, Edward Thomas; a twin brother, Bill Thomas; and sister, Betty Brandon. Survivors include his wife, Belinda Thomas; daughters, Lisa Summerlin (Barry) and Joy Michelle Marcantel; sons, John Thomas and James Thomas; and grandson, Zachery Thomas. Joe served 10 years in the US Marine Corp, where he was stationed in Vietnam and Guam. He worked at BF Goodrich 30 years. Joe was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and target shooting. Joe was an active member of United Full Gospel Church, where he loved to play his guitar and sing praises to the Lord. 2 Corinthians v. 14 says, "For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." Joe knew this and lived his life in anticipation of his eternal home. Pallbearers will be James Durrett, Joe Davis, Hoyt Fondren, Dave Connell, Don Higgins and Zachery Thomas. Special friends include Charles Shubert, Glenn Broughton and Gail Moore. The family would like to express deep appreciation to the wonderful staff of Hospice of West Alabama and to his special nurse Heather. Also special thanks to his Baby Cousin Diane Blevins who helped make his last days special by visiting and talking with him about their childhood. All who knew Joe loved him and will miss him greatly. This includes all the dogs and cats that he has rescued and gave a loving home.
