Jodie Sue Bush Clanton of Northport, AL, a loving mother, sister, daughter, and friend, passed away at the age of 62, of natural causes, on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. She was born on May 5, 1961 to Jerry Ray Bush and Malinda Sue Thomas in Birmingham, AL.
Jodie was a proud student of Huffman High School, where she adored her numerous friends, played outstanding softball, and perhaps most famously, excelled as a vivacious cheerleader until she graduated in 1979. After high school, she attended Auburn University, where she spent her undergraduate years on the Tiger Paws dance team. She entered into the Coordinated Dietetics Program and graduated with a B.S. degree in Nutrition and Dietetics in 1983, becoming a Registered Dietitian that same year.
After starting her Registered Dietitian career in LaGrange, GA, Jodie settled in Tuscaloosa, AL. There, she held various Dietitian positions for the State of Alabama mental health systems, where she was loved by many coworkers. Most recently, for the past 13 years, she made her home in Northport, AL. For the last 17 years, she served as Dietitian for the Mary Starke Harper Geriatric Psychiatry Center, where she worked to provide excellent care and compassion for those less fortunate who were institutionalized with chronic special needs. She was set to retire on April 1st of this year.
In her personal life, Jodie was a social butterfly with a bubbly personality. She never met a stranger, and had a great sense of humor. Her inner beauty was inspirational, her outer beauty was radiant. Her laugh and bright smiles were contagious. She had unwavering faith in the Lord and the power of prayer. She enjoyed sunny days and felt most relaxed at the beach. She was a passionate fan of Elvis music and relished Mexican food. Over the years, she always had a canine companion by her side. She briefly served as president of the Auburn University Alumni Association of Tuscaloosa.
Jodie loved her friends and family fiercely, especially her father Jerry Bush and siblings Jamie and Jason Bush. She married at the Auburn University Chapel in 1985, a union which lasted 26 years and gifted her with a son in 1994, Trent Clanton. She was a very devoted mother who went above and beyond to make Trent’s childhood magical. She possessed unlimited levels of wisdom to bestow on him, bragged about him to everyone she knew, and supported him in every endeavor as he grew into a man.
Jodie will be remembered for her genuine spirit and lively personality. Jodie’s loving family, along with all the many lives she touched, will miss her tremendously.
