Joan Ray, 83, beloved Mother, was called to her eternal resting place on April 27, 2020. She entered this world on July 25, 1936, in Bridgeport, Alabama. Daughter of the late Silas and Christine (Payne) Hurst. Joan was proceeded in death by her mother and father and her siblings Barbara Combs, Jim Hurst, Mattie Ruth Hurst; and daughter Patricia Frey. She is survived by her brother Kenneth Hurst, daughters Brenda (Ray) Wilson; and Gina Graffius, grandchildren Richard Wilson, Evan Graffius, Joshua Graffius, Jeremy (Melissa) Mills, and Christina Mills Robinson; great-grandchildren Lindsey Wilson, Skylar Wilson, Tyler Wilson, Kelsey Mills, Chase Robinson, and Jayden Robinson as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joan was a strong independent woman who never met a stranger. She loved her family and spending time with them, more than anything. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her sister Barb. She often indulged in fried chicken, sweets, and Coca Cola.
Joan served in the Army from 1954 to 1955, and she worked as a bookkeeper for 40+ years.
Honorary pallbearers are employees of the Aliceville Manner Nursing Home, DCH (Northport and Tuscaloosa), Nicki Hammonds Hospice nurse with Amedisys Home Health, and Peachtree Villa's (Peach Tree City, GA).
The family appreciates all the calls, texts, kind gestures, and prayers expressed to the family during this time. Due to the current restrictions on gatherings all services will be held privately at the discretion of the family members in their respective states.
