Jessie Belle “Jet” Holemon

Jessie Belle “Jet” Holemon , age 93, of Northport, Alabama, passed away June 14, 2024. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Winters Cemetery on Traweek Rd, Northport, Alabama with Bro. Kevin Morrison officiating and Magnolia Chapel North directing.

She was born October 1, 1930 to Nason and Irene Holloway. She was the fourth of nine children. They were raised with little and often struggled to get by like many others of her generation. But they were happy and the joy and love they had for one another has been passed down and spread through our family. We are forever grateful for the examples set by this beautiful soul and her siblings. A true Proverbs 31 woman, she spent her life as a selfless caregiver seeing to her household and beyond. There were countless country meals prepared in her small kitchen and everyone was welcome. Homemade biscuits, chicken and dumplings, and dressing were just a few of her specialties. Feeding others was a way to show her love.

Jet lived the majority of her life in the Brownville Community, except for a few years in Michigan. She attended Montgomery School and graduated from Tuscaloosa County High in 1948. Jet was always independent and worked to support her family. After high school she went to work at Partlow State School as Dr. Partlow’s secretary. While living in Michigan, she worked at Universal Electric. She returned home to Alabama and retired from DCH after 25 years.

Her life was not easy, but she was always ready to laugh and have fun with those she loved so dearly. Whether it was a trip to the mountains or just sitting on her porch, you could always count on a good time.

Jet made the decision to follow Jesus as a child and lived her life accordingly. Her faith was evident in her actions and her teaching was done by example. She attended Friendship Baptist Church and Mt. Hebron in her youth and was a faithful member of Bethabara Baptist Church for most of her adult life.

Jet was a wonderful mother, granny, sister, aunt and friend. We grieve our loss but know there is rejoicing at the gates of Heaven. She has been welcomed by so many loved ones who she has been longing to see.

She is survived by her children, Belinda Miles and Larry (Sharon) Holemon, grandchildren, Casey Miles, Tabatha (Jonathan) Price, Arlis (Christi) Holemon, Melody (Ronald) Lunceford, Lynn, Jualiah, and Allen Winters, and great grandchildren, Jeremy, Jennifer, Britney, Destin, Mallory, Trace, Haley, Adam and Lane, sister Tootsie Sullivan and sister-in-law Anglyn Holloway, and many special nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her dear sons, Timmy Holemon and Terry Holemon, brothers Junior, Leck, JB, Duell and Pud Holloway, sisters Ruby Thrasher and Sue Montgomery, sisters-in-law Berthelene Holloway, Joanne Holloway, and Hilda Holloway, brothers-in-law Arnold Sullivan, George Thrasher, and dear friend Jerry Wicker.

Pallbearers will be Casey Miles, Arlis Holemon, Trace Freeman, Ronald Lunceford and Jonathan Price.

Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Arti Pandey, members of Bethabara Baptist Church and the Brownville Community, caregiver Rhonda Carr, and her buddy Jim Standridge.

Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:31
