Jerry Lewis Matherson

Jerry Lewis Matherson, age 81, went home to be with our Lord December 24, 2023 at DCH Northport ICU. Services will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:00 am at Magnolia Chapel South. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakhill Cemetery.

Jerry was born October 30, 1942 and was a lifelong resident of Moundville, Alabama.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Susie Matherson of Moundville, son; Samuel J. Matherson of Tuscaloosa and sister Gwen Ellis of Tuscaloosa.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Creel Matherson, son; Brad Matherson (Tina), daughter-in-law; Debra Matherson, grandsons; Jerry C. Matherson, Trenton Matherson, Lincoln Matherson, and Rhett Matherson.

Jerry was a member of Moundville Baptist Church and was previously a longtime active member of Little Sandy Baptist Church. Jerry retired from Michelin/BF Goodrich after 38 years. He was a kindhearted and generous man who loved his family. He always had a huge garden and had an abundance of fruits and vegetables which he shared with friendsand neighbors. One of his most favorite pastimes was crappie fishing with his grandsons. When his sons were growing up, Jerry coached little league baseball and was active in his children's sports. He was also glued to te television every Saturday during football season to watch his favorite team, Alabama Crimson Tide.

Pallbearers will be Danny Matherson, Charles Stewart, David Krystofiak, Jr., John David Smalley, Randy Ray, Kyson Ryan, Michael Creel, and John Bradshaw.

Honorary pallbearers are Martha Ray, DCH Northport ICU, Dr. Larry Skelton, Dr. Josh Price, George and Louise Tucker, Toby Banks, Charlie Davis, Chuck and Shirley Jay, Becky Langham, employees and retirees of BF Goodrich, and friends and neighbors of Moundville.
