Jerome Woodrow Heaton, age 88 of Duncanville, passed away January 3, 2024 at Bibb Medical Center. Services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Magnolia Chapel South at 11:00 am with Bro. Ray Hallman officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing. Burial will follow at Duncanville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
He is preceded in death by his mother; Margaret Heaton, and sister; Ernestine Abney.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Sara Heaton, sons; Brian Heaton (Nicole), Sean Heaton (Amy), sister; Rachel Lord, grandchildren; Morgan, Andrew, Lydia, Keegan and Will.
Jerome grew up in Duncanville and raised his family there. He was very active in his community. He served in leadership in Duncanville Little League, TDM, and Duncanville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a deacon and minister of music at Duncanville Baptist Church for 50 years. He was a retired educator, teaching in Virginia and Tuscaloosa City Schools. He loved to crochet afghans, jug fish, make syrup, travel, and garden.
He loved the Lord and lived his life as a Christian example for others to see.
Pallbearers will be Brent Medders, Kiley Medders, Josh Stone, Ronnie Holley, Ronnie Stone, and Billy Doss. Honorary pallbearers will be George Conwell, the staff of Bibb Medical Nursing Home, and Duncanville Volunteer Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Duncanville Volunteer Fire Department or Gideon Bible's.
