Jayne Rose Shirley, a beloved member of our community passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024 at the age of 83.
Jayne was predeceased by her parents Erin and George Rose of Northport, Alabama.
She is survived by her three children, Wendell Todd Shirley (Ginger), Johanna Rose Shirley, and Ryan Edward Shirley (Karen); her grandchildren, Audrey Rose Higgins (Pat), Allison Lay (John Tanner), Adrian Shirley, Will Shirley, Austin Lancaster (Maghan), Adam Lancaster, Savannah Shirley and Julianna Rose Barksdale; and her great-grandchildren, Alayna Jayne Driver, Josie Lay, Stella Lay, Grayden Lay, Miller Lancaster, Sawyer Lancaster, and Ann Collins Lancaster.
Born on September 4, 1941, Jayne was a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School. She furthered her education at The University of Alabama where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and Education.
Jayne's life was marked by her dedication to the Lord, the church, her family and beloved friends. Jayne was a wonderful Mother to her children, loving Mother-in-law to Ginger and Karen and the best G.G. to all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She loved to cook for one and all, always creating her own recipes and letting others try all of her delicious casseroles, breads, desserts and so much more. She was the ultimate perfectionist when it came to her cooking and many people got to be included in her taste tests. She enjoyed hosting beautiful parties in her home throughout the years for her family and friends.
She was happiest when she was in her kitchen where she spent countless hours.
An avid gardener, Jayne cherished watching her ideas, visions and plantings come to life, especially her roses. She loved sharing her knowledge of flowers and gardening tips, offering her "how to's" to all of us.
Jayne was a charter member of St. Mark Church and sang in the church choir. She was also a dedicated member of the Whosoever Sunday School Class. She loved spending time with her church friends, neighbors and the infamous members of "The Birthday Club".
She adored her precious dog Gracie Mae who was a constant companion and rarely left her side.
Pallbearers will be William Barnes, Chris Davis, Tyler Davis, Graves Watkins, Guy Watkins and John Tanner Lay.
Honorary pallbearers are Pastors Bo Lloyd and Jason Stonehouse of St. Mark Church, all staff and members of St. Mark church, the Whosoever Sunday School class, Barbara Davis, June Sullivan, Sally and Buck Smith, Joanne Burkhalter, Carolyn Gray, Kathie and Jerry cooper, Jane and John Curry, Merline Spivey, Sue and Arnold Mills, Joy Bollick, Donna and Phil Adcock, Janice and Doug Acker, Joanne and Jack Thompson, Sharon Reed, Jennifer McGuire, her neighbors in Waterford, Johnny Beck, Crystal Marquis, recent loving care giver Needa Lee, very special family friend Armantha Washington and Hospice of West Alabama.
Visitation will be 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2024, at St. Mark Church. The service will begin at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Bo Lloyd officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Magnolia Chapel North directing.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark Church, 1421 McFarland Boulevard, Northport, AL 35476, in honor of Jayne Rose Shirley.
