James Troy Prewitt, age 72, of Northport, died October 1, 2011, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Tindle and Rev. Jerry Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Maudie Prewitt; his sister, Carolyn Prewitt; and his special long-time companion, Margie Cork. Survivors include his sisters, Eloise Prewitt-Funderburk (Eddie), and Sharon Prewitt Montgomery (Jack); nieces, Stacy Coats (Kendall) and Maria Workman (Robby); and great-nieces, Anna Coats, Makenna Workman and Madalyn Workman. Pallbearers will be Kendall Coats, Robby Workman, Gordon Montgomery, George Prewitt, Bruce Green, Dewey Green, Robert Coats, Billy Guin, and Jimmy Battle. Honorary pallbearers are friends of Mt. Olive Community and Old McGee Road and close friends from The Junction in Columbus, Miss. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the doctors and staff of the DCH Cancer Treatment Center, Dr. Gene Alldredge, Amedisys Home Health Care, and the nurses and staff of MICU, TSICU, and the Cancer Unit at DCH Regional Medical Center.
