James Kenneth Hocutt, affectionately known as "Ken," profoundly touched the lives of all who knew him. He passed away on January 27, 2024 in Charlotte, NC. Ken's remarkable life began in Berry, Alabama, on November 17, 1944, born to parents Pauline (Clements) Hocutt and Delmar Hocutt. He grew up with his sister, Betty (Hocutt) Dove.
In 1968, Ken wed his soulmate, Louisa (Eyssen) Hocutt, fondly called "Lou." Their union was blessed with the arrival of their only child, Richard K. Hocutt, in 1973.
Ken's dedication to his country was exemplified by his 20-year career in the United States Air Force, starting in 1967. A valiant Vietnam Veteran, he skillfully piloted Caribou aircraft during the Vietnam War. His commitment continued at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California, where he led the C-135 flight simulator department until his retirement in 1987. Post-military, Ken followed his aviation passion, flying FedEx planes for West Air, Inc. for 23 years.
In 2002, Ken became a grandfather to Alex Hocutt, his cherished grandson, born to Richard and Martha Hocutt. Ken lovingly embraced the role of "PawPaw." 2018 marked a new chapter as Ken and Lou moved to the Charlotte, NC, area to be nearer to Richard, Martha, and Alex, cherishing his final years with them.
Ken's legacy as a devoted husband, father, and PawPaw, is marked by his generosity and warm spirit. He had a remarkable ability to make each person he met feel like a friend. His interests were diverse, ranging from golf to enjoying "Prairie Home Companion" and Southern Church Hymns, but his greatest joy was time spent with his family.
Ken's life was a testament to an unwavering spirit and a kind heart. His absence leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew him. His journey through life will continue to inspire, and his legacy will eternally resonate in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Ken's memory to the Berry Women's Club. Donations can be sent to:
