James Herndon

James Dennis Herndon, Jr., age 89, of Eutaw, Ala., died December 20, 2017 in Boligee, Ala. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Mesopotamia Cemetery with Deborah Born officiating. Burial will follow with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church immediately following the graveside service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Dearman Herndon; son, James Dennis Herndon, III and parents, James Dennis Herndon and Erma Grace Herndon. Survivors include his son, John Dearman Herndon (Melissa); daughter-in-law, Susan Herndon Caples; sister, Janet Flowers; grandchildren, James Dennis Herndon, IV, Robert Boteler Herndon (Camille), John Stewart Herndon (Madeline) and Andrew Dearman Herndon. He was a graduate of Greene County High School and The University of Alabama Law School. He was a former Probate Judge of Greene County and was a longtime catfish and cattle farmer in Boligee. Honorary pallbearers are Leroy Dixon, Michael Dixon, and Emmanuel Dixon. Special thanks to caregivers- Veronica Dixon and Patricia Dixon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Frances Herndon Scholarship Fund at Judson College or to the First United Methodist Church of Eutaw.
