James Harry Montgomery
NORTHPORT - James Harry Montgomery, age 68, of Northport, Ala., passed away May 18, 2019 in Nashville, Tenn. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Magnolia Chapel North with Rev. Jerry Montgomery and Rev. Terrell Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Phillips Chapel Church Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service.
He was preceded in death by his father, John B. Montgomery; and grandparents, Perry B. and Rettie Montgomery, Jim Henry and Lucy Watson.
Survivors include his brothers, Larry B. Montgomery (Shelia) and Gregory Scott Montgomery; mother, Vista M. Montgomery; niece, Erica Zutell of Northport, Ala.; and nephews, Brian Montgomery, Clay Montgomery and Cole Montgomery of Northport, Ala.
Harry was a lifelong resident of Tuscaloosa County. He graduated from Northside High School and Shelton State Technical College. After serving in the military he returned to Tuscaloosa and began his career with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office. He served in several positions including Patrol, West Alabama Narcotics and as Chief Deputy for several years. He was a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va.
Pallbearers will be the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers are all past and present law enforcement personnel with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office, Tuscaloosa Police Department, Northport Police Department and The University of Alabama Department of Public Safety; Harry's motorcycle-riding buddies and Hwy 43 North breakfast group; special friends: Jimmy Garner, Jerry Pinion, Glen Sparks, Mike and Ronnie Anders; Northside High School Class of 1968, Ted Sexton, Ron Abernathy, Hardy McCollum and Rob Robertson, friends and neighbors of Northport and Phillips Chapel Community.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
