James Robert "J. R." Fikes

James Robert Fikes, age 78, of Duncanville, Ala., passed away September 25, 2023 at home. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Liberty Baptist Church in Duncanville with Pastor Greg Walker and Kim Fanning officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel South directing. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Fikes and Elaine Fikes; grandparents, Earl and Sadie Fikes and Willie and Jessie Tindal; sister, Gladys Faye Fikes; and brothers, Willie Earl Fikes, Gary Fikes, and Thomas Eugene Fikes.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Fikes of Duncanville; daughter, Yolanda Kay Fikes of Duncanville; sisters, Gaynell Pope (Macon) and Martha Hollingsworth; and brother, Jerry Fikes (Linda); sister-in-law, Ramona Fikes; grandchildren, Kasey Fikes Frederick (Casey), Hunter Fikes (Toni Jai), and Jeffery Nicholas Wood; and one great-grandchild, James Benson Frederick.

James worked at OK Tire Store, Perry Creamery, Crimson Dodge, Tucker Motor Co., and Townsend Ford. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He loved Alabama football, hunting and fishing, loving every day, spending time with family and in his younger days loved building dune buggies and riding with one of his best friends, John Mitchell; and NASCAR racing.

Pallbearers will be Bob Colburn, Spencer Lee, Curtis Hollingsworth, Gary Fikes, David Fanning, Jeff Green, Ben Fikes, Joe Sparks, and Macon Pope.

Honorary pallbearers are Morris Fikes, family and friends of the Hagler-Duncanville Community, members of Liberty Baptist Church, employees of Shelby MICU Dept., Calera UPS, and Kia Auto of Atlanta, Ga.
