James William Edwards NORTHPORT |On December 26, 2014, James "Jim" William Edwards went home to be with his Lord. He was married to his beautiful wife Ellen for 62 years before he passed peacefully on their anniversary. Jim was born in Birmingham, Ala. on December 28, 1931. He was the son of James Palmer and Mamie Lee Edwards. He is survived by his Ioving wife, Ellen Scott Edwards, his doting children, Carolyn Allen (Joby Sanford), Ricky Edwards (Sally), Yardley PA, Linda Dockery, Liberty WVA, and Mark Edwards (Tina)"� He was also survived by six grandchildren; Autumn Myers (Chris), West Virginia, Mariel Edwards, Philadelphia PA, Richard Edwards, Yardley PA, Jamie Edwards and Jason Edwards, a sister, Mrs. Margaret Ann Rhodes, Vestavia Alabama, and 4 great grandchildren. After graduating as a Delta Chi from the University of Alabama in 1956, Jim began a Iong professional career in the oi| industry with Citi Service and Mobil Oil. He traveled extensively worldwide. The highlight of his career was in New Zealand as a Technical Manager with Synfuel Ltd., where he contributed to the construction of the first alternative energy petroleum plant. Jim was very involved with community affairs throughout his Iife. He has received numerous recognitions and awards for his work on the Iocal, state and national Ievels with the Jaycees. Upon Jim's retirement in 1993, he and Ellen returned to Alabama and made their home in Northport, where he continued his education and began his involvement Iocally in community affairs. In 1999, the Citv of Northport recognized Jim's Ieadership through his participation in the Planning Zoning and Water Boards. He received the Lion of the Year Award from the Northport Lions Club, and also used his talents as a Master Gardener to work on various projects to beautify the Iocal community. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 30 at Magnolia Chapel North. Visitation will begin at 10 am with services following at 11 am. Rev. Michael Miller will be officiating. The burial will follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Bob Green, Jamie Edwards, Jason Edwards, Windell Davis, AD Christian, Norman Carlson, Lynn Higginbotham and Bill Yessick. Honorary Pall Bearers are Dr. John Summerford, Dr. Anne Lewis, Joby Sanford, Jimmy and Jay Greene, Veronica Gaddy, Kim Kliner, Mary Craig, and Forest Manor Staff. In Iieu of flowers please send donations to either The American Heart Association or the St. Marks Food Pantry.
