James C. Deason BERRY James C. Deason, age 90, of Berry, died June 14, 2012, at home. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Hannah United Methodist Church in Gordo with Bro. Byron Fair officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church. He was preceded in death by his son, William Wayne Gillespie; his parents, J.B. and Polly Ann Deason; and his siblings. Survivors include his wife, Mary Margey Deason; his daughters, Cindy Buford (Paul) of Tuscaloosa, Mary Nichols of Northport, and Margaret Smith (Aubrey) of Berry; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Deason was a Corporal in Battery B of the 36th Coast Artillery Battalion during World War II. He received the World War II Victor Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a wonderful husband of 65 years, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. We love you and will miss you. Pallbearers will be Daniel Buford, Brian Nichols, David Foman, Ray Foman, Andrew Knight, and Matthew Knight. Honorary pallbearers are special caregiver Mrs. Joyce Burgess, Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. Scott Fulgham, Dr. George Miller, Mrs. Gwen Wilson CRNP and Rick Humphrey from the VA Medical Center, and all home health aides. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama and Hannah United Methodist Church of Gordo.
