James Darwin Oswalt, age 80, of Tuscaloosa, died June 12, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Keith Pugh and Jerry Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Oswalt; parents, Afton and Lola Oswalt; brothers, Orville and Lesley Oswalt; and sisters, Bama Butler and Reba Phillips. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Chatham Oswalt; daughters, Joan and Linda Oswalt; son, David Oswalt (Linda); sisters, Annette Norris (Roy) and Wista Hall (Ken); brother, David Oswalt (Carol); six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Out of high school, he joined the Air Force for four years. In 1955 he went to work in San Diego, Calif. at the Naval Air Station, North Island. In 1986 he retired and returned to his roots in Alabama. Pallbearers will be his nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Buzzy's Domino Club, Phillips Turner, Jim and Shirley Buckalee, Linda Prescott, and friends from the Open Door Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Open Door Baptist Church or Hospice of West Alabama.
