Ivey G. Harris MOUNDVILLE Ivey G. Harris, known to all as Pete, age 85, of Moundville, went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 6, 2013. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Fannie Harris of Greensboro; his sisters, Ila Mae Cook (Ernest) of Fairhope and LaVada Fikes (Raymond) of Greensboro; and his son, Larry Joe Harris of Moundville. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Laura Dockery Harris of Moundville; daughters, Sue Ann Elliott (Kenny) of Greensboro, Nancy Booker (Joe) of Cottondale, and Becky Massey (Robbin) of Sawyerville; son, Mike Harris (Terri) of Moundville; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was born November 27, 1927, in the Valley community and attended the Valley School. Pete worked for Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. for over 40 years and thought of the Minges as his family. Pete was known as a great hunter by all. The check-in station in Oakmulgee Forest on County Road 50 in Hale County was named in his honor in 2011 as the Pete Harris Check-in Station. Fishing and gardening were two of his other passions. He was known by his friends and relatives as a man with a brilliant mind. He was loved and respected by many and will be missed by all. Pallbearers will be Bobby Cook, Ken Ryan, Ludie Smelley, Reginald Hoggle, Wayne Hoggle, Bill Whitley, and Eddie Minges. Honorary pallbearers are Billy and Kendrick Minges, Howard Townsend, Jenette and Greg Richardson, Wayne Richardson, Frank Ramey, Alvin Tidmore, Victor Poole, Ray Sullivan, Bobby and Lois Sexton, Dr. Skelton and staff, Hospice Complete, County Line Grocery Coffee Club, and Dr. Morr.
