Hewitt Herman Shelton, age 84, of Northport, died Nov. 20, 2011, at Forest Manor Nursing Home. Services will be 2 p.m. today at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Brannon Pinion, Rev. Tim Tindle, and Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hewitt and Ola Shelton; and his brothers, Vernon, Therman, and D. L. Shelton. Survivors include his wife, Lorene Shelton; his son, Boyd Shelton (Karen) of St. Peters, Mo.; his daughter, Barbara Cowart (Mickey) of Northport; his brother, Roy Shelton (Myra) of Moundville; seven grand-children, and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Shelton retired in 1987 after 25 years from the Univer-sity of Alabama Athletic De-partment as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. He was an avid fisher and hunter and after retirement he enjoyed working in his wood shop and spending time with family. Pallbearers will be James Beck, Danny Brown, Andy Hill, Jonathan Shaddix, Dennis Shel-ton, and Eric Tidmore. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Grass, Brian and friends and neighbors of Hwy 171 and Mt. Olive Community. The family would also like to give special thanks to Dr. Clint McEntyre and staff, Hospice of West Alabama, nurses of sta-tion 3 at Forest Manor Nursing Home, and DCH 4th floor nurs-ing staff.
