Melvin had a very strong work ethic and a compassion for those in need.
In 1958 he went to work with Cockrell and Company as an operator, he loved running heavy equipment, and that passion led him to start his own business in Northport. He established Melvin Sellers Excavating in 1967 and he continued to be involved until 2011 when his health began declining. Throughout his career as an excavator, he did many jobs in the Tuscaloosa and Northport area. Melvin would love to take on very challenging excavation jobs and if he cleared off your homestead, property or did the excavation for a business his customers always knew he was a man that you could depend on to get the job done and done right. Melvin was also one of the original founding members and stockholders of Magnolia Chapel Funeral Homes.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, being outdoors on the family farm, deer hunting and fishing.
