Herbert Tilley

Rev. Douglas Tilley, 78, son of Rev. Herbert & Lorene Tilley born in MS.; went home to his lord Jesus this week. He married Alice Thomas of Tuscaloosa in 1959. They had 3 children: Teresa Hartley Shippen, Mark [Rachel] & Luke [Patricia] Tilley. They also have 11 grandchildren & 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9:45 – 10:45 at Providence Baptist Church in Montevallo. A homecoming service at 10:45 to follow with Rev. Allen Foster, Rev. Jackie Adcox, and Rev. Kevin Corley officiating. Burial will follow the service with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. All his siblings are living: Virginia [Jackie] Adcox, Donald [Mary] Tilley & Arnold [Bernice] Tilley.

He was an ordained Free Will Baptist minister for 45 years serving churches in Tuscaloosa & Pickens counties, AL. He served as a bi-vocational pastor until he losing his eyesight, & continued to preach the gospel with help from family and friends, even when his health failed him. He walked by faith, not by sight (2 COR.5:7). Although Douglas is no longer with us physically, he will live on in our hearts. This is not a farewell as we hope to see him real soon in heaven. We have this blessed assurance. He was a true man of god, prayer warrior & witness for the lord. He looked forward to fellowshipping with other Christians & attending church. He loved his Trinity Bible family. He never met a stranger, had a humble spirit, heart & a winsome personality. Pallbearers will be Keith Adcox, Lamar Adcox, Perry Madison, John Thomas, Todd Tilley & Trent Tilley Honorary Pallbearers are Betty Chadwick, Dr. Arti Pandey & Comfort Care Hospice, Kenneth Moates, Michelle & Ricky Coker, Radio Station WKLF friends, Bro. Talley & Trinity Bible Church Friends, Cobblestone Village friends, all past & present ministers & members of the Mount Moriah Association of Free Will Baptist Churches.
