Herbert Boyd Kelly TUSCALOOSA Herbert Boyd Kelly, age 83, of Tuscaloosa, died July 11, 2013, at home. Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South with Rev. Hal Noble and Rev. Lyle Holland officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Romae Waldo Kelly. Survivors include his daughter, Linda Kelly Lightsey (Ray) of Tuscaloosa; his sons, Boyd Kelly (Liane) of Montgomery, David Kelly (Gina) of Tuscaloosa, and Alan Kelly (Tracy) of Northport; and his grandchildren, Kelly Lightsey, Caleb Lightsey, Jesse Kelly, Sabrina Kelly (fiancé Casey Dye), Kristina Kelly, Katherine Kelly, Tyler Wilson, and Reese Kelly. Herbert was born in Pike County, Ala. to Samuel Boyd and Sarah Glen Kelly. After graduation from high school, Herbert went to work for Southern Bell, where he worked for 41 years. From October 1953 until October 1955, Herbert took a leave of absence from Southern Bell and served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. In 1963 Herbert and his family moved to Tuscaloosa. Herbert was happily married to Romae for 57 years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He never met a stranger. His wit was well known and appreciated by his many friends. Pallbearers will be Caleb Lightsey, Jesse Kelly, Casey Dye, Bob Griffin, Stanley Morrow, and Howard Snyder. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Pete Weinheimer, Aldersgate Sunday School Class at Forest Lake United Methodist Church, 7:00 a.m. Cardiac Rehab Class, Telephone Pioneers, and Tuscaloosa Heartland Harmonizers Barbershop Chorus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Forest Lake United Methodist Church Building Fund.
