Henry Robert Martin, "Hank", lovingly known as "Pops," age 81, of Greensboro, AL, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Edward and Ella Virginia Burke "Toots" Martin.
Hank is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Florence Mitchell Martin; daughter, Bobbie Jacobs (Chris); three grandchildren, Hunter Jacobs (Callie), Courtney Nevels (Dylan), and Miller Jacobs (Anna Beth); two great grandchildren, Hadley Nevels and Mary Layton Jacobs.
Hank was born October 29, 1942 in Greensboro, Alabama. He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1961. Following high school, Hank attended the University of Montevallo. He then served four years in the United States Airforce. After this, he pursued a career as a merchandiser/sales representative for Lorillard Tobacco Company, where he worked for 30 years. Following retirement, Hank enjoyed his hobbies of golfing (or taking his friends' money, as he always told us), maintaining the third generation Martin Hill family farm, spending time with family and friends, going to the beach and enjoying Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed by so many. His kindness, wisdom, and love will always be remembered.
The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Hank's remarkable life with a graveside service on Friday, October 25th at 2:30 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Greensboro, AL. Graveside will be officiated by Reverend Gene Jordan with Magnolia Chapel South directing.
Pallbearers will be Chris Jacobs, Hunter Jacobs, Miller Jacobs, Dylan Nevels, Tim Mitchell, and Brett Liverman. Honorary pallbearers are Greensboro High School class of 1961, the staff of Hospice of West Alabama, staff of Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center, Amedysis Home Health Care, Dr. James Evans and staff, Dr. Ross Vaughn and staff, Dr. Jimmy Payne, Woodland Forrest Country Club (Tall Pines Golf Club) and his golfing friends, Anna and Lamar Hall, Mickie and Marsha Harrow, John Jay, and so many other dear friends.
Hank's family would like to express an abundance of love and gratitude to these people, who were such a blessing in his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of West Alabama or Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center.
