Helen Elaine Partrich Burroughs, age 99, of Romulus, AL, born July 31, 1925, passed away on January 6, 2025, at home. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Magnolia Chapel North with Pastor Mike Trull officiating. Private burial will follow with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Magnolia Chapel North.
Preceded in death by her husband of 63 years William Verdo Burroughs, Jr., parents Homer Park Partrich and Alice Abigale Partrich, brother Reverend Dr. Douglas Park Partrich, son Richard Verdo Burroughs (Deloris Glover), and grandson Timothy Brian Burroughs.
Survivors include son William Leslie Burroughs (Jean Peeks) of Romulus, AL, daughters Helen Denise Davis (Reggie) of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Sylvia Partrich Gilliam (Ricky) of Tuscaloosa, AL. Eight (8) grandsons: Leslie Todd Burroughs, William Chadwick Burroughs (Jenny), Richard Bradley Burroughs, Jeremy Partrich Burroughs, Charles Talbert Swann (Mandy), Brandon Keith Davis, Joshua Shawn Gilliam (Jenn); one (1) granddaughter Lindsey Nicole Boozer (Cary). Thirteen (13) great-grandchildren and twelve (12) great-great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law Mary Partrich of Chattanooga, TN.
She graduated Tuscaloosa County High School in 1944 and followed her husband in the U.S. Air Force until 1946, returning to Romulus to make their home and farm.
She loved and enjoyed the farm life she had with her husband, and was part owner of Romulus General Merchandise and Verdo’s Eggs. She was a life-long resident of the Romulus Community, member of New Hope Baptist Church, the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class, the Eastern Star, the Tuscaloosa County Farmers Federation Women’s Committee, and the Romulus Community Culture Club. She enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends
She loved the Lord, family, friends, neighbors, the Romulus community and surrounding communities. One of her favorite things was having her family together on holidays and special occasions, as well as going to the cabin at Seagrove Beach, Florida, with family and friends.
After retirement, you could find her working in her yard, her flowers, and her garden. She liked to tell you some of her great-grandchildren were the eighth (8th) generation still living on the family land in Romulus, AL.
She will be missed by her family and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class NHBC, the Romulus Community Culture Club, members of New Hope Baptist Church and Romulus Methodist Church, Tuscaloosa County Farmers Federation Women’s Committee, Gary Bonner, Don Springer, John Alexander, friends and neighbors.

Granddaughter Lindsey Boozer and great-granddaughter Audrey Boozer will sing her favorite hymns: “How Great Thou Art,” “In the Garden,” and “Amazing Grace.” Her favorite Bible verses are I Corinthians 13 and Psalm 121.
