Harvest Olon Burroughs

Harvest Olon (H.O.) Burroughs, 88, of Tuscaloosa, AL, passed away August 5, 2023 at Sunshine Health Care in Pontotoc, MS. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 10 am at Pate Cemetery in Buhl, AL. with Magnolia Chapel North directing. Any floral tributes can be sent to Magnolia prior to the service.

Olon is preceded in death by his parents, Pascal and Allie Burroughs; seven brothers-Edward, Nelson, Jessie, Aaron, Jim, Milton and Montgomery (Baby) Burroughs; two sisters, Ruby Crawford and Myrtle Geer and his wife, Melba Farley Burroughs.

Survivors include his son, Steve Burroughs (Sherry); grandchildren, Crystal House (Justin), Brookes Smith (Brad), Lacey Comer (Bradley), and Joshua Burroughs, great grandchildren, Newt Norris, Hudson Smith, Justin House, Jr, and Savannah Smith, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Olon played the guitar and piano from an early age. Growing up, many Friday and Saturday nights were spent with his family, playing music and singing. He loved the old gospel and country songs. After entering the nursing home, he & his son, Steve, would sometimes play their guitars together, drawing many residents to listen to their mini concerts. He was also a skilled and highly regarded paint contractor, who gave his best, no matter the size of the job.

Olon was married to the love of his life, Melba Farley Burroughs, for 25 years. He loved her unconditionally and cared for her at home in her final years.

Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Sunshine Health Care and Homecare Hospice.
