Grace Chandler

Grace Carroll Chandler, age 70, of Moundville, Ala., passed away on October 20, 2016, at Hospice of West Alabama. A funeral service will be held at Moundville United Methodist Church on October 24, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Grant Parker and Rev. Bill Curtin officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South on October 23, 2016 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray H. Chandler; parents, Glynn and Elizabeth Carroll; and brother, Donald Carroll. She is survived by her daughter, Marla Chandler Dare (Austin), Moundville; son Thomas Weldon Chandler (Karla), Tuscaloosa; brother, Bruce Carroll (Martha), Tuscaloosa grandchildren, Chandler Dare, James Parker Dare, Grayson Chandler, Reese Chandler, and Davis Dare; and several nieces and nephews. A devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, Grace delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and following their many activities. She was an avid Alabama softball fan who watched or listened to every game. She graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1964 and attended Shelton State where she obtained a cosmetology degree. In addition, she enjoyed contributing to her community by assisting with the publishing of The Moundville Times newspaper with her husband for many years and distributing the paper to the Moundville Nursing Home residents. Pallbearers will be Clay Carroll, Shaun Carroll, Grant Carroll, Clint Carroll, William Wayne Edwards Carroll, John Carroll, Danny Matherson, and Wayne Boteler. Honorary pallbearers are Peggy Ray, Peggy and Jim Cole, Peggy and Ronald Nevin, Wallace and Carolyn Elliott, and Addie Kipp. The family expresses sincere appreciation to Dr. John Dubay, Joanne Miller, and the staff of The Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center. Contributions can be made to The Moundville United Methodist Church or Hospice of West Alabama.
