Geraldine (Jerry) Hinton Prewitt
TUSCALOOSA Geraldine (Jerry) Hinton Prewitt, age 92, of Tuscaloosa, died on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8 at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South with Dr. Keith Pugh officiating and Dr. Joe Ziegler, soloist. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Jerry was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harold Edward Prewitt; her parents, Phares and Ruby Wyatt Hinton; and three sisters, Doris Prewitt, Bonnie Wyatt, and Jill Barton.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol P. Martin (Terry) of Pineville, LA and Donna P. Carroll (Dennis) of Mobile, AL; two grandsons, Brian Martin of Winter Park, FL and Seth Carroll (Kimberly) of Madison, AL; one granddaughter, Phares Carroll of Arlington, VA; two great-granddaughters, Kellyanne Martin of Hernando, MS and Charlotte Carroll of Madison, AL; and one great-grandson, Jack Carroll of Madison, AL. They all made her very proud. She is also survived by two brothers, George Hinton (JoAnn) of Tuscaloosa and Jack Hinton (Linda) of Boligee, AL and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jerry was blessed with special and long-time friends Alice Patrick, Wanda Erwin, Frances Crowe, Pat Pate, Louise McCracken, and Doris Novatnak.
Jerry was a 1947 graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and was a former employee of First National Bank of Tuskaloosa. Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church, the Lydia and The Parlor Sunday School classes, and Triple L, a Senior Ministry. She also taught children’s Sunday School classes for many years. She loved and enjoyed watching Alabama football and Alabama softball, traveling in an RV, cross-stitch, and quilting. She was also an accomplished seamstress. Each of the grandchildren received a special quilt upon their college graduation.
Pallbearers will be Brian Martin, Seth Carroll, Phares Carroll, Dennis Carroll, Allan Hinton, and Jimmy Ellis. Honorary pallbearers are Aubrey and Nancy Kelly, her cousins, nieces, and nephews, and friends and staff at Pine Valley Retirement Community and at Morning Pointe of Tuscaloosa.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Latanya Cottingham, Cassandra Sledge, Teresa Ragsdale, and Earnestine Johnson, Jerry’s compassionate caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Missions Ministry or the Children’s Ministry at First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa.
