Geraldine (“Gerry”) Swindle Green (March 7, 1935 – August 7, 2021), age 86, passed away on August 7, 2021 after a long illness. Gerry was born and raised in Oakman, Alabama and graduated from Oakman High School in the Class of 1952. She was a nearly three-decade employee of the federal government, working for the Department of Labor and later the Small Business Administration. She and her late husband Frank made their home in Birmingham for over 40 years. After Frank’s death in 2001, she moved to Tuscaloosa to be with her son’s family. Her great loves were her family, her relationships with others, and the worship of God, especially through music, at her two home churches. She was a 20-year member of the Cathedral Choir at the Cathedral Church of the Advent (Episcopal) in Birmingham, for which she proudly prepared drop-by dinners served between their Christmas Eve choral services in the 1980s and early 1990s. In her later years in Tuscaloosa, she served as a volunteer hostess and in the Lazarus Ministry at Christ Episcopal Church. She is survived by her sister, Mary Elizabeth Swindle Laurent of Parrish, Alabama; her son, Wilson Franklin Green (Amanda Adams) of Tuscaloosa and Birmingham; her grandchildren Amelia Herren Green and Olivia Read Green, both of New York, New York, and Wilson Franklin Green Jr. of Montgomery; step-grandchildren Margaret Elizabeth Lynn Schedler and Lukas August Eduard Schedler of Birmingham; and her long-time friend Bill S. Wynn of Birmingham. There will be a private interment, but there will be no funeral service at this time due to the ongoing pandemic. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Music Discretionary Fund of the Cathedral Church of the Advent (Episcopal), 2017 Sixth Avenue North, Birmingham, Alabama 35203.
