George Shirley

George Mark Shirley, age 70, of Northport, Alabama, passed away December 19, 2020. He was the son of the late Margaret and Grady Shirley of Northport and was preceded in death by his brothers, Wendell Shirley and Gary Shirley. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Jane Shirley; son, Ed Shirley (Beverly); daughter, Amy Gargis (Shaw); granddaughters Catherine Shirley and Claire Gargis; brother, Hilary Shirley; sister, Carol Booth (Randy); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mark was a skilled carpenter and woodworker and could do anything with his hands, from building houses to restoring antique furniture. He was creative, hardworking, and took pride in a job well done. He taught his children that they could do anything they put their minds to. Always willing to help others, friends and family could count on Mark to assist with a variety of special projects. Mark was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Some of his fondest memories included time spent with his hunting buddies. Mark was a kindhearted and loving son, husband, brother, uncle, father, and grandfather who will be missed by family, friends, and his faithful companion, Roxie the dachshund.

A private graveside service and burial will be held at Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing.

Pallbearers are Todd Shirley, Ryan Shirley, Steven Shirley, Brandon Booth, Clint Randolph, Danny Barringer, and Griff Parrish.
Honorary pallbearers are William Barnes, Fletcher Barnes, Patton Barnes, Jason McCullough, L.B. Lackey, Allen McDuff, Marvin Tant, Paul Ballard and many friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 14837 Highway 69 North, Northport, AL 35475.
