George Stanley Duncan, age 83, of Moundville, died May 28, 2017, at his residence. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Concord Baptist Church in Hale County with Bro. Wyatt Rhone and Bro. Tom Terry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be today, May 29, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sidney and Ellarene Thomas Duncan; brothers, John William Duncan, Roland L. Duncan and Sidney R. Duncan (Pete); sister, Eloise D. Hodge-Foster; and first wife, Josephine Parr Duncan. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lillie Windham Duncan; daughter, Valerie Ann Duncan; sister, Emma Jean Griffin; son, William Keith Duncan (Beth); brother, Wallace Glenn Duncan; two grandchildren, Sydney and Maggie Duncan; and a number of nieces and nephews. Stanley lived in the Stewart community his entire life. He had a great desire for the safety of the community and he served as the first chief of the Stewart-Havana Volunteer Fire Department for eleven years. Pallbearers will be Bryan Gyillo, Cord Myrick, Mevin Hoggle, Terry Holland, Steve Duncan, Kenneth Windham, Gary L. Stone and Phil Langford. Honorary pallbearers are friends of the Stewart community, members of the Stewart-Havana Volunteer Fire Department and Jack and Pat Parr. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Stewart-Havana Volunteer Fire Department.
