Fred Pate

Fred S. Pate Jr., age 76, of Northport, died May 14, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama. Memorial services will be 12 noon Saturday at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Fred Hammond officiating and Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred S. Pate Sr.; his mother, Phyllis C. Pate; his brother, John E. Pate; and his sister, Barbara Ann Gibson. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Minor Pate of Northport; daughter, Jennifer Lea Richardson of Northport; son, Fred S. Pate III (Kathy) of Fort Pierce, Fla.; sister, Henrietta Elizabeth Moore (Terry) of McCalla, Ala.; brothers, Dan Pate of Livingston, Mont., Robert E. Pate (Sharon) of Woodstock, Ala. and Kenneth A. Pate (Brenda) of Argo, Ala.; and grandchildren, Warren R. Barrett, Elizabeth S. Pate, and Erin M. Pate, all of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Blaine E. Richardson and Kyra E. Richardson, both of Northport, Ala. Fred was born and raised in Fairfield Highlands, Alabama. He raced Triumph TR3As and Spitfires in the SCCA, later becoming an award winning service advisor for a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Ft. Pierce, Fla. Fred was happiest when he was fishing, especially with his brothers. He was a certified Master Gardener in Florida and Alabama and loved growing tomatoes, okra and peppers. He also enjoyed cultivating orchids and roses. He loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
