Evelyn Lee (Cannon) Vetzel

Evelyn was born on March 21, 1942, to Arlin and Evelyn Cannon of Evergreen, Alabama. She married the late Robert M. Vetzel while attending Auburn University. After raising their children in Tampa, Florida, Evelyn moved to Marion, Alabama, where she received a Bachelor’s degree at Judson College. A member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the Daughters of the American Revolution, Evelyn worked as the registrar at Marion Military Institute for many years. She was also a member of St. Wilfred’s Episcopal Church in Marion.

Evelyn passed away on May 21, 2024, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her three children: Bob (Michelle), Joe (Stacy), and Lashaun (Mitchell) Lockhart. She had eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her twin sister, Nell (Fred) Richmond, and a beloved sister-in-law, Kathy (Jerry) Benda.

There will be a graveside service at Heiberger Methodist Church on Saturday, June 1, at 11:00.

Evelyn loved animals and rescued many dogs and cats over the years, so in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to Bigbee Humane Society, P.O. Box 474, Demopolis, AL 36732.
