Emily Ruth Smith Farris, 40, of Tuscaloosa, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at DCH Regional Medical Center. She passed in peace, embraced in the loving arms of her husband.
Emily was born August 21, 1983 to Roland C. “Dick” Smith, II and Pamela Webb Smith of Athens, AL. She graduated from Athens High School in the class of 2001, where she was a member of AHS marching band, National Honor Society, and member plus President of Pi Beta Sigma. Emily earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Alabama in 2005. Furthering her interest in IT, she worked as an analyst for Oracle Corporation.
Emily enjoyed spending time with her family and “flufferdoodle”, especially outdoors. She loved gardening, hunting, fly fishing, barbecuing, kayaking, listening to good music and cheering for the Crimson Tide. Most of all, she cherished all the moments she watched her children thrive, whether it involved school, mountain biking, or boating on the Elk River.
Emily is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Corey Farris; her son, Stephen Webb Farris; and her daughter, Evalyn "Eva" Grace Farris. She is also survived by her parents, R.C. “Dick” Smith II and Pamela Webb Smith; brother, H. Crutcher (Shana Zirbel) Smith, II of Athens; parents-in-law, Stephen Kirby Farris and Deborah Kay Farris; niece, Sullivan Grae Smith; nephews, R.C. "Trip" Smith, III, Harry Dewsberry "Dewey" Wright IV, and Liam Kendrick Wright.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Magnolia Chapel North, Northport, Alabama. A memorial service will follow at 12:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Athens, Alabama to be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Camp Hope, (a 1-day grief camp for children who have suffered the loss of a loved one), ℅ Hospice of Limestone County, P.O. Box 626, Athens, AL 35612 or to your favorite charity.
