Elon Miller Hamner Mackey TUSCALOOSA | Elon Miller Hamner Mackey, age 89, of Tuscaloosa, died August 22, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2014, at Little Sandy Baptist Church Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be Saturday, August 23, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at 1221 Indian Hills Circle, Tuscaloosa. She was preceded in death by William Miller, Sr., James C. Hamner, and William Mackey; and brothers, George Hinton, Jr. and James L. Hinton. Survivors include her sons, William A. Miller, Jr. (Jessica) of Tuscaloosa and James C. Hamner, Jr. (Libby); sisters, Mary Jean Hinton, Elizabeth Holman Thomson (Jim) of Tuscaloosa, Dorothy Crawford (Dave) of Marion; special sister-in-law, Jean Hinton of Tuscaloosa; parents, George L. Hinton, Sr. and Mary Alice Hinton; grandchildren, William A. Miller, V (Kristi) of Tuscaloosa, Twyla Miller Wilson of Atlanta, James C. Hamner, III (Jennifer) of Tuscaloosa, and Katherine Virginia Hamner of Charleston, S.C.; and four great-grandchildren. Elon was a pioneer of women realtors. She was the 1st Woman Realtor in Tuscaloosa, 1st Woman President of Board of Realtors serving two terms in 1967 and 1968. In 1968, she was 1st Woman Realtor of the Year and 1st Female Real Estate Broker in Tuscaloosa. Her company Elon Miller Realty built more than 100 homes in Tuscaloosa. She was serving her 3rd generation of customers when she retired at age 88. Thanks to her special caregivers, Shirley Madison, Katherine Romain, Delma Jean Meadows, Shelby Channell, Jessica Nixon, and Bobbie Kirby. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Little Sandy Burial Society, 1021 Pinemont Drive, Tuscaloosa, AL 35406; First Presbyterian Church or Hospice of West Alabama.
