Eloiese Carden, age 96, died peacefully on May 10, 2023 at her home in Northport, Ala. after a long, fruitful, and blessed life. Her visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 15, 2023, at Magnolia Chapel North followed by a 12:30 p.m. graveside service at Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Coal Fire, Ala. Rev. James Carden will lead services.
Eloiese, known lovingly to her family as “Who Who”, was born on April 27, 1927 to Anna Pearl and Claude Carden. She gained an undergraduate degree in Education from the University of West Alabama (formerly Livingston University) and later a master’s degree from the University of Alabama. She had a successful career working for Gulf States Paper then with Parklane Hosiery before retiring. In retirement Eloiese enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, spending time with her family, and leading her Sunday school class at Northwood Hills Baptist Church. Gatlinburg, Tenn. was one of her favorite places to visit with her sister Libby where they would often take last minute and unplanned trips with no agenda. She had a heart for adventure and spontaneity.
Although she never married, Eloiese was a leader in her family and dedicated herself to helping raise and love her brother’s and sister’s children and grandchildren as though they were her own. Through every hill and valley “Who Who” was there to encourage and support her family or just to be an ear to listen. She was extremely smart and a wonderful counselor that guided her family in a Christian manner through all the stages of life. She was a true picture of selflessness and kindness to others. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to us and we will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Anna Pearl and Claude, her sister Libby Stanley, and her brother Buddy Carden. She is survived by her brothers, Charles and Clyde (Jenny), and all of her honorary children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Carden, Travis Carden, Scooter Stanley, Jacob Stanley, Ed Carden, Michael Palardy, and Chad Leonard. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Carden and Robert Clayton.
Special thanks to Laura Thomas.
