Ella Smith Griffin BIRMINGHAM - Ella Smith Griffin, age 95, of Birmingham, Ala., died August 19, 2016, at Legacy Nursing Home in Pleasant Grove. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2016, at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. J. E. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Yellow Creek Baptist Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her son, J. Marvin Champion. Survivors include her daughter Janice M. Champion Byington; son, Roland M. Champion; sisters, Margie S. Cost of Pinson, Kathryn S. Carver of Dauphin Island and Trudis S. Redding of Tuscaloosa; brothers, Capt. Harold Smith of Poplarville, Miss, J. E. Smith of Northport, Ala. and Carl P. Smith of Vance, Ala.; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to the Yellow Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
