Edward Holland West BUHL Edward Holland West, age 70, of Buhl, died Jan. 22, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Dr. John A. Nixon Jr. and Rev. E.J. Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward E. and Helen H. West. Survivors include his wife, Deborah Johnston West of Buhl; his daughters, Amanda Scott (Bobby) of Spanish Fort and Kathy Crump (Doug) of Tuscaloosa; his sons, Ryan West (Jonda) of Northport, Jeremy Hunter (Meghan) of Fort Riley, Kan., and Jason Hunter (Kristy) of Ralph; his brother, Sidney West (Ruthie) of Fairview, Texas; and his grandchildren, Jackson Spybey, Scarlett Scott, Josie Crump, Mara Crump, Courtney Warren, Michael West, Emily West, Lane Hunter, Ashlyn Hunter, Zack Fullerton, Dawson Hunter, Kaleb Hunter, and Jacob Hunter. Edward Holland West was born in Tupelo, Miss. in 1942, and grew up in the communities of Verona, Miss., and Memphis, Tenn. He attended Messick High School in Memphis and graduated from Batesville, Miss. High School in 1960. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served in Alaska and Washington in the Signal Corps. He received an honorable discharge in 1963. He then returned home to Mississippi and enrolled in the University of Mississippi, where he received his B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1968. Upon graduation, he was recruited by B.F. Goodrich Tire Company and decided to work in Tuscaloosa. He retired after 30 years of service. He was an avid fan of antique cars and loved restoring them, especially British cars. Ed was active in the Antique & Classic Car Club and West Alabama British Car Club. He was a devoted HAM radio operator (WD4MLD) and enjoyed bowling, gardening, and building and fixing most anything. He especially loved and adored his caring and devoted wife, Deborah. He was a member of Northport Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa Antique & Classic Car Club, West Alabama British Car Club, Crimson Cruisers, former member of Tuscaloosa Amateur Radio Club, founding member of West Alabama Amateur Radio Club, and a member of Tuscaloosa County Preservation Society and Friends of Historic Northport. Pallbearers will be Darrell Martin, Jim Woods, Allen Williams, Danny Dockery, Kelly Bruce, Ken Dockery, Bobby Johnson, Phillip Clements, and Michael West. Honorary pallbearers are members of Carl Wilson Sunday School Class at Northport Baptist Church, Dr. John Dubay and staff of DCH Cancer Center, and members of West Alabama British Car Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to DCH Cancer Center or Hospice of West Alabama.
