Edward Hall
08/06/1948-04/23/2024
Ed passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. He fought a good fight and his race was won. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM Tuesday, April 30th at Flatwoods Baptist Church, Gordo, AL. Ed never wanted to be the center of attention, so a simple graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 30th at Center Springs Cemetery on County Road 21, Gordo, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margie Hall, all his siblings: Billy Hall, Nell Defoor, Jackie Hilyer, Buddy Hall, and Annette “Little Bit” Allen, and a nephew, who was more like a brother, James David Williams.
Ed is survived by his nieces, Michelle Kirk, Rhonda Reece, Betty Champion, and Beverly Pate; nephew, Donald Allen. Ed didn’t have any children of his own. All his nieces and nephews were his children, all the way to the great and the great-great, all were just as special. He loved them all deeply, sometimes loving them too much. He never married but he had what people desired most in Gary Dunn, a very best friend. Ed and Gary were two peas in a pod for over 30 years. They spent time building the river lot to a slice of heaven, attended many auctions which Ed loved and along with the spoiled pup, T, they traveled a lot of roads just riding.
Ed was a man of few words but what he did have to say were the wisest words ever spoken to some. The man had patience of Job in everything he did. Ed was drafted into the Army in December 1969 just 6 months after building his house. He traveled to North Carolina and California for training and to Okinawa, Japan where he was stationed before returning home in May 1972. He began working at Perry’s Pride Ice Cream before he began his career with the Federal Government in the early 1980’s. He worked many years at the VA Hospital, transferring to the Post Office as a window clerk later. Ed will be well remembered for his smile and sweet demeanor, retiring in 2009 with 32 years of service. In his retirement years, Ed enjoyed family and friends. Ed gave so much of himself to others, often doing without himself. The last months were a struggle as his health declined. Ed held strong to his faith saying God is in control. We will miss him greatly, but we take great peace in knowing he’ll be waiting for us at Jesus’s feet.
Pallbearers will be Joey Martinez, Barron Martin, Ken Shirley, Kevin Shirley, Wes Gray, and Greg Walters.
Special thanks to Tammy, Jordan, Leavy and Lamesha with Enhabit Hospice Care, Dr. Wright, DCH Hospitalist, Dr. Dirk Berry, Nephrologist, Dr. Phil Hemstreet, Cardiologist, friends of the Kirk Community and Flatwoods Baptist Church and anyone that thought of, texted, called, or said a prayer for Ed.
