Edna Travis Turner TUSCALOOSA | Edna "Tee" Travis Turner, age 89, of Tuscaloosa, died December 26, 2014, at Heritage Health Care & Rehab. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Ken Dunivant officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Myrtlewood Cemetery in Livingston with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Enoch Travis Turner and Edna McCain Turner; sisters, Francelle and Margaret Turner; and brother, Dr. Clarence M. Turner. Edna Turner, lovingly known as "Tee" is survived by her beloved cousins, Amelia Hinton Carroll (Don, deceased) and William Troy Hinton (Stephanie) of Tuscaloosa; and their children, Charles Clay Carroll of Tallahassee, Fla., Shaun Wesley Carroll of Montgomery, Ala., and Dr. William Dax Hinton of Tuscaloosa. Miss Turner graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and the University of Alabama with a BA in Education. She began her teaching career at Tuscaloosa County High in 1949. She taught several years at Kennedy School in the Birmingham City School System. She returned home to 406 27th Avenue to care for her parents and began work as a librarian at the Tuscaloosa Public Library where she was employed for more than twenty years. She retired in 2007. She was a member of the General Sumter Ch. of the DAR. She was the epitome of a true Southern lady. She was known for her grace, kindness and "sweet spirit" by all who knew her. She dedicated her life to helping and doing for others. She was a Christian who loved her church and her Savior. She has met her Master and is now with the saints in heaven. The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Heritage Health Care for the excellent and compassionate care given by the 4th floor staff, Dr. Regina Harrell, and to Hospice of West Alabama. Honorary pallbearers include Heritage Health Care staff of 4th floor, Dr. Regina Harrell, Hospice of West Alabama, Michelle Hunter, Susan Kizziah, Care Team of First United Methodist Church, Pat Watson, Martha Green, Shiann Norris, Bobbie Golson, Ella Davis, Dora Miller, Shirley Cook and Sanford Gunter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Tuscaloosa Public Library, or Hospice of West Alabama.
