Edna Jean Fikes, age 75 of Greensboro, passed away October 11, 2023 at DCH Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Rosemont Cemetery in Uniontown with Rev. Wade McCrory and Rev. Dee McGuire officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lemuel Gus Fikes, son; Robert Dewayne Fikes, father; Joseph Pate, mother; Mary Taylor, and her siblings; Peggy Walker, Mickey Pate and Rusty Simmons.
Survivors include her daughter; Mary "Sissy" Compton (Lee), sister; Betty Smith (Henry) of Moundville, brother; Joe Pate (Lisa) of Monroeville, grandchildren; Ashley Clary (Ryan), Cleo Valdez (Fito), Chase Compton (Alise), 7 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews,great nieces and great nephews.
Jean was raised in Uniontown, Alabama. After marrying Gus Fikes, she moved to Greensboro, Alabama where she worked at Greensboro Apparel for a number of years. She raised two children Robert and Mary (Sissy). Robert preceded her in death. She continued to help husband, Gus, in the operation of Fike's Trucking until his death in 2008. Jean's passion was caring for numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as playing a variety of games with her friends. Jean lived a full life full of adventures with friends. The family wishes to thank niece Eryn Simmons for being a special care giver to Jean over the last eight months.
Pallbearers will be Cole Simmons, Erik Hendon, Travis Davis, Ryan Clary, Jim Sealy, and Fito Valdez. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Pate, Walter Sanders and Michael Osmer.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to New Haven Baptist Church or Greensboro Baptist Youth Group.
