Edith Shelby

NORTHPORT Edith Elizabeth Swindle Shelby, age 83, of Northport, died Oct. 2, 2012, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South with Dr. Herb Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. She was preceded in death by her son, Lonny Shelby; her husband, William C. Shelby Jr.; and her parents, Lewis and Della Swindle. Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Shelby Hallman (Clayton) of Northport; her sons, Charles Shelby (Katrinka) of Tuscaloosa and Mitchell Shelby (Maria) of Madison, Ga.; her sister, Ela Mae Jones of Pensacola, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Shelby was born September 29, 1929, in Tuscaloosa County and lived here her entire life. She was a loving and beloved wife of 60 years, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all. Pallbearers will be Heath Shelby, Landon Shelby, Mitchell Shelby Jr., Daniel Shelby, Andrew Shelby, Thurman Swindle, R.D. Swindle, and Henry Swindle. Honorary pallbearers are Lake View Elementary School faculty and staff, special friend Tracey Daffron, and special caregivers Mary Hulskotter, Christy Latham, as well as Laurena, Tiffany, and many others.
