Dorothy Mae (Pate) Tunnell NORTHPORT - Dorothy Mae Pate Tunnell, age 92, died January 27, 2017 at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. January 31, 2017 at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. David Tunnell, Dr. Jimmy Hughes, and Rev. Jerry Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Bone Camp United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, January 30, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state Tuesday, January 31, 2017 one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. She was preceded in death by her father, Noah Sandy Pate and mother, Linnie Mae Pate; three sisters, Zula Sullivan, Muriel Ausley both of Birmingham, Ala., and Erdeal Sanford of Northport, Ala.; three brothers, Buddy Pate of Northport, Ala., Donnie Pate of Gadsden, Ala., and Clayton Pate of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and great-grandchild, Daniel Ray Collins of Buhl, Ala. (son of Joseph and Jennifer Collins of Buhl, Ala.) Survivors include her husband, Charles Edward Tunnell, a World War II Veteran, of Northport, Ala.; daughters, LaJune Burnett (Jerry) of Northport, Ala., Deborah Collins (Mike) and Doris Plowman (Doug) of Coker, Ala.; son, Dee Tunnell (Sara) of Northport, Ala.; grandchildren, Noah Collins, Joseph Collins, Heather Davidson, Shannon Burnett, Brian Plowman and Charles Tunnell; and great-grandchildren, Houston and Emma Collins, Fisher Collins, Jacob, Andrew and Kaylee Davidson, Taylor and Malane Guy, Tristen Burnett and Levi Tunnell. Our mother had many special talents. She was a great singer and directed music during her younger days at Rice's Valley Baptist Church and Robertson Chapel Baptist Church. She was employed at Tom Pogue Studios for 55 years and later at Pinions Greenhouse from where she retired. Our mother was considered in the area the "Queen of Creamed Corn" because she was an excellent cook. She is the mother of the singing group "The Tunnell Sisters" LaJune, Deborah, Doris and Teresa. Her son, Dee Tunnell, a singer/soloist also. Mother loved all her nieces and nephews very much. One of her special nieces, Shelia Marcum of Coker, Ala. said the following about her Aunt: "my Aunt taught me what a family unit could be and all about her Savior, Jesus Christ"�.so much love given and so much love received." Pallbearers will be Noah Collins, Joseph Collins, Shannon Burnett, Charles Tunnell, Brian Plowman, Adam Marcum, Taylor Guy and Shawn Davidson. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. John Summerford and staff, DCH Regional 6th floor, Heritage Nursing Home and staff, and Hospice of West Alabama.
