Dennis A. King | MOUNDVILLE Dennis A. King, age 88, of Moundville, died Jan. 28, 2012, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery with Pastor Steve Vernon and Pastor Dee McGuire officiating and Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Stokes King; his parents, Arthur and Omie King; his brother, Doren King; and a special niece, Kathy Evans Calloway. Survivors include his son, Steve King and wife Vickie of Greensboro; sisters, Doris Cooper of Tuscaloosa, Elizabeth Evans of Clay, and Joyce Collins (Harlan) of Collins, Miss.; brother, Donald King of Mobile; and granddaughters, Taylor King of Greensboro and Rebecca King of Greensboro. Mr. King was born Jan. 5, 1924, to Arthur and Omie Russell King, and was one of six siblings. He was a 1943 graduate of Hale County High School before serving his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon completion of his military duty he returned to Moundville and married Jane Stokes, to whom he shared his life for 48 years prior to her passing in 1993. He retired from the Alabama Forestry Commission after serving as a forest ranger in Hale and Tuscaloosa counties for 34 years. He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9, of which he served as secretary/treasurer for over 50 years. He enjoyed a daily game of dominoes and had a great passion for bluegrass music. His greatest joys in life were his granddaughters, Taylor and Rebecca. Pallbearers will be David Rogers and nephews Brandon Calloway, Mike Calloway, Barry Collins, Bobby King, and Dicky King. Honorary pallbearers are Basil Hoggle, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Nevin, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Avery, Mr. and Mrs. Armon Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Atkins, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Hearal Guess, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Griffin, Mr. and Mrs. Russell King, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. Louis "Buster"� King, Mrs. Imogene Haywood, Michael Haywood, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9, Alabama Forestry Commission, Moundville Telephone Co., bluegrass music friends, Bank of Moundville, and Hale County High School Class of 1943.
