David Rogers

TUSCALOOSA - David Armon Rogers, age 65, of Moundville, Ala., passed away March 12, 2019 at Hospice of West Alabama surrounded by his daughters. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2019, at Moundville Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville Alabama with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at Moundville Baptist Church. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South is directing.

Survivors include his daughters Lindsey Rogers Smith (Jeff), Jennifer Rogers Cowley, and Marcie Rogers Morris (Justin) and his sister DeLane Rogers Bailey (Chris) , his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Armon Rogers, his grandchildren, Anderson Smith, Lydia Smith, Cooper Cowley, Carter Morris, and Garrett Morris.

David was a 1971 graduate of West End Christian. He served in the Army National Gaurd and then worked for Alabama Power Company where he retired after 37 years of service. He was an outdoorsman in every sense of the word. He loved to fish, hunt, ride motorcycles and any other activity that took him outside. During the 1990's he wrote a successful weekly outdoor column for The Tuscaloosa News.

David returned to his hometown of Moundville to serve the town and people he loved so much. He served on the Moundville City Council from 2008-2010. In 2010 he was elected to serve as a member of the Hale County Commission where he served until 2014. In his last years, he moved to Gulf Shores, Alabama to enjoy his retirement and spent more days than not out on the sea fishing, which was his favorite activity. He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Pallbearers will be John Bailey, Walt Bailey, Chase Cook, Daniel Fowler, Mike Knight, Ricky Rogers, Tim Ryan, and Mark White.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of West Alabama, Inc.
