Major David Alonza Hampton, age 80, of Tuscaloosa, AL, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 with family and friends around him. Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021, at St. Francis of Assisi University Parish in Tuscaloosa, AL. Burial will follow in Bear Creek 1 Baptist Church Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel South directing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl C. Hampton; mother, Delma E. Pike; brother, Clyde Hampton; sister, Glenda Jones; and grandson, Adrian Hampton.
Survivors include his wife, Toni Rose Hampton; sons, David Hampton Jr. (Shannon) and Patrick Hampton (Janet); sisters, Martha Schuh (Jim) and Mary Thrasher (Larry); grandchildren, Tristan Hampton, Lane Hampton, Heather Hampton, Maddie Hampton, Savannah Yeager and Kim Hampton; and great-grands, Naomi Hampton and Elizabeth Hampton.
David A Hampton was born in Bear Creek, Alabama on December 24th 1940. He graduated from Phillips High in 1957 and later attending Florence State University and graduating with a commission to serve as an officer . His military service began in 1959 and ended in 1987, retiring as a Major for the United States Army. He served in both the Marines and the Army. Along with multiple tour overseas in Europe, he was combat veteran serving in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971, receiving the Vietnam Cross for Gallantry with 3 Bronze Stars. His primary service centered around Electronic Warfare and Military Intelligence.
Honorary pallbearers are Barry Goree, Jim Schuh, Phillip Rose, Steve Fontanette, John Cassese, Dennis Taylor, John Britton and Russell Moss and Larry Thrasher.
In lieu of flowers he would request that donations be made to the Phillips High Athletic Department of Bear Creek and/or the Bear Creek #1 Baptist Church. Semper Fi... This We'll Defend
