View Sign MOUNDVILLE David Edward "Ed" Avery Jr., age 80, of Moundville, died Oct. 15, 2012, at home. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. today at Havana United Methodist Church with Dr. Nathan Elliott officiating. Private family burial will take place with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Edward Avery Sr., and his sister, Sarah Ann Avery. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Chambers Avery; his son, David Avery III (Elizabeth) of Auburn and their children, Chambers Avery, a student at the University of Alabama, Spencer Avery, and Elizabeth Ann Avery; his son, Albert Avery (Sheleen) of Northport and their son, Krisstopher Avery; and beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ed was born March 15, 1932, in Tuscaloosa. He lived his life in the Havana community. He was a lifelong member and leader of Havana United Methodist Church. He served 24 years on the Hale County Board of Education, including many years as Chairman. He was a founder of the Havana Community Club. He also served his community on the Dixie Youth Little League Baseball Board, was a member of the Farm Service Agency and the Hale County Cattlemen's Association, was a Director of the Farmer's Federation, was recognized as a TREASURED Forester, and served on the Advisory Board of the Citizen's Bank of Greensboro for many years. Honorary pallbearers are Havana United Methodist Church and community, Hale County High School Class of 1950, members of Campground Hunting Club, and officers and employees of Citizen's Bank of Greensboro. The family would like to thank Hospice of West Alabama and DCH Regional Medical Center for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Havana United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 458 Co. Rd. 42, Moundville, AL 35474; or Hospice of West Alabama.
