Dalton Ellison, age 83, of Northport, died Jan. 27, 2012, at home. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Sam Delaney and Dr. Jimmy Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Rosa Ellison, and grandson, Landon Ellison. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sue Ellison; three sons, Berneal Ellison (Telesa), Ed Ellison (Linda), and Kenny Ellison (Carla); three brothers, Llannie Ellison (Doris), R.L. Ellison (Elenor), and Buck Ellison (Frances); five grandchildren, Kimberly, Kristae, Ashley, Angela, and Brantley; and nine great-grandchildren, Abigail, Katie, Karly, Halle, J.P., Hannah, Taylor, Brantley, and Savannah. He was born May 17, 1928, in Tuscaloosa County. After attending Tuscaloosa County High School, he served in the U.S. Navy. After being honorably discharged from the service, he worked as a machinist and supervisor at Gulf States Paper Corporation for 33 years. Upon retiring, he worked with his brother Buck at Northwood Lake Chevron gas station. He was a member of Rice Valley Baptist Church. By example, he taught his three sons the importance of a good work ethic. He loved to watch sports, work in his garden, and was known for his unique sense of humor and way of speech. Pallbearers will be Larry Ellison, Dale Ellison, Darwin Ellison, Brantley Ellison, Jeff Deavours, Scott Deavours, and Ronald Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Gene Alldredge and staff, Rice Valley Baptist Church members, Gulf States Paper Corp., and neighbors and friends of Union Chapel Road East. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rice Valley Baptist Church Building Program.
