Claudia Belle Holloway

Claudia Belle Holloway, 79, of Greensboro, AL, passed away on May 4, 2023. Claudia was born May 1, 1944, in Greensboro, AL, to David Leon Holloway and Ida Mae Martin Holloway. She grew up in Greensboro, AL, and graduated from Greensboro High School.

Claudia was preceded in death by her parents, David and Ida Mae Holloway, sister, Eleanor Compton Drake, brother-in-law, Walton Avery Drake, brother William Lee Compton, and nephew Walton Avery Drake, Jr.  She is survived by her niece, Betty Kay Compton Payne (Jessie), nephew, Lee Compton, Jr (Sissy), niece Beth Leigh Drake, nephew William Earl Drake and Sister-in-law, Betty S. Compton, seven great nieces, four great nephews, ten great-great nieces, and fourteen great-great nephews.

Claudia moved to Birmingham, AL, shortly after graduating high school. However, she soon returned to Greensboro, where she could be seen working at Shays Café, The Inn Restaurant, and Greensboro Apparel. After retiring from Hale County Jail as the kitchen manager, Claudia pursued her passion for genealogy. She was known to track down family photos and stories for genealogy books that would be left behind for family. During her genealogy searches she often went to auctions, estate sales, antique shops, and yard sales around Alabama. In addition to genealogy, she was an avid cat lover and could be seen caring for her cats daily. She loved to cook and frequently did so for family holidays, where she spoiled children with gifts and always had the most icicles on the Christmas tree. She was a member of Greensboro Baptist Church, where many of her family still attend.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the Greensboro City Cemetery, with Rev. Steve Vernon officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing.

Honorary pallbearers will be William Lee Compton, Jr, William Earl Drake, Julian Tutwiler Blalock, Jr, Bennett Chase Compton, William Tyler Christian, and William Walton Drake.

In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to the Hale County Animal Shelter.
