Charlie Maxwell Hicks, a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and a retiree of the Federal Aviation Administration, passed away on May 25, 2024. Services will be held at Alabama National cemetery on Friday, May 31,2024 at 10:15 am and Celebration of Life Friday, May 31, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Valley view Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Joy officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing.
The son of the late Vinson and Leah Hicks, Charlie grew up in Lawley, Alabama. He was born on October 14, 1936 and was a graduate of Bibb County High School. At the age of nineteen, Charlie enlisted in the Air Force. He retired from active duty after twenty years of service. Charlie continued his Air Force skills working for the FAA with Flight Services throughout the United States until his retirement.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Herring Hicks. They shared 66 years together and he called her the love of his life and appreciated her dedication to his career. He is also survived by his siblings- Vincent Keith Hicks, Levon Hicks Johnson and Kaver Hicks Crouch.
He will be remembered as “the big brother” and the many times he shared acts of kindness and generosity to them throughout their life events.
Charlie has also made many life-long friends as he traveled to several countries and states throughout his career. He enjoyed sharing special memories with them. He was not only proud of his achievements in his career but appreciative of his relationships with those who made life special to him.
