Charles Parker Turnipseed TUSCALOOSA | Charles Parker Turnipseed, age 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Gilgal Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at Magnolia Chapel South. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Sarah Clements Turnipseed, and his parents, C.E. and Vera Parker Turnipseed. Survivors are his son, David Turnipseed (Rhonda); his daughter, Susie Dailey (R.D.); his sisters, Mae McCary and Harriett Turnipseed; his grandchildren, Dr. Stan Turnipseed (Ellen), Joni Nichols (Justin), Marc Turnipseed, Beth Crocker, and Ben Dailey (Miranda); great-grandchildren, Hailey, Madison, Chandler, Sara Kate, Hayden, Patton, Mills, Rhett, Stanton, Lyla Brooke, and Mize. Mr. Turnipseed was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family, especially at Sunday lunches at his home. Mr. Turnipseed was a life-long member of Gilgal Baptist Church where he served as deacon for 56 years and church treasurer for 25 years. He organized and directed the first Royal Ambassador group at the church. He also organized and coached the first Taylorville Little League baseball team, and served as president of Mitchell Water System for 25 years. He retired as Manager of the Processing Department at the B.F. Goodrich Tuscaloosa plant after a 40-year career. In 2011, he was honored with a resolution from the Alabama State Senate commending him for his outstanding achievement as a volunteer firefighter and dedicated servant of the community. He was a founding member of the Duncanville Volunteer Fire Department, served as Captain and Assistant Chief for 15 years and remained active until his death. During his 24 years of service, he answered more than 5000 fire and emergency calls. Pallbearers will be Dr. Stan Turnipseed, Marc Turnipseed, Justin Nichols, Ben Dailey, George Hunt, Raiford Noland, Jr., and Horace Haynes. Honorary pallbearers are friends of the Taylorville community, members of the Gilgal Baptist Church, members of the Duncanville Volunteer Fire Department, employees of Mitchell Water System, Larry Odom, Mae Tant, Tina Bragg, employees and retirees of B.F. Goodrich, David Turnipseed and Co., JamisonMoneyFarmer PC, employees of the Emergency Department of Northport DCH Regional Medical Center, employees, of the Taylorville Branch of Alabama One Credit union, One Stop Laundry, Dunkin's Pharmacy, Dr. Argo, Dr. Lopez, staff of MICU at DCH Regional Medical Center, and special nurse Sara Beth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Duncanville Volunteer Fire Department or Gilgal Baptist Church.
