CPO Charles Duncan, USN (RET) TUSCALOOSA | SCPO Charles Duncan, USN (RET), age 71, died January 4, 2014, at DCH Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Duncan and his mother, Lillie Dell Worrell. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Frida Catherine Duncan; a son, Christopher (Carolyn) Duncan; a brother, Larry Duncan; three grandchildren, Bradley, Brandon and Ashley. Also, he is survived by niece, Terri Nicolai; three nephews, Shane Duncan, Craig Nicolai, and Eric Nicolai; notwithstanding in-laws, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Charles attended Tuscaloosa grade schools and went on to graduate and receive diplomas from Shelton State Technical College in Automotive Mechanics, an Associate Degree from Shelton State College, and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Alabama. He spent almost 22 years in the U.S. Navy, having served over six years as a staff member in the organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C., several years as the Administrative Department Head of the Thirty-first Naval Construction Regiment, Port Hueneme, California, and culminating with a tour of duty as the Officer-in-Charge of the U.S. Naval Reserve Center, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He received the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal, five Good Conduct Awards, numerous Defense and Weapons Medals, and letters of appreciation and commendation for performance of duty. Upon completion of his military service, he worked as a Computer Operator at Regions Bank before working with the U.S. Post Office, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he retired after 21 years of service. Interment will be for immediate burial at Alabama National Cemetery at Montevallo, Alabama. Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing.
