Charles Jackson Brooke ALICEVILLE Charles Jackson "Jack" Brooke, age 78, of Aliceville, passed away June 4, 2013, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at his residence in Aliceville with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South in charge of arrangements. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.R. Brooke and Katie O'Connell Brooke; two brothers, Ralph Leroy Brooke and William Paul "Billy" Brooke; and one sister, Betty Brooke Jones. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Marie Brooke McKinzey (Don), Jan Jones Blakney (Tommy), Jil Jones Daniel, Ralph Leroy Brooke Jr. (Deidra), Dr. William Robert Brooke II (Linda), Joseph Brooke Jones (Susan), and William Keith Brooke (Gayle); 16 great-nieces and nephews; and 21 great-great-nieces and nephews. Jack was born May 6, 1935, in Palmetto, Georgia. He attended school in Aliceville, Alabama and graduated in 1953. He worked at MS&C Hardware until 1956 and joined the armed forces in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps until May 1958, stationed in Huachuca, Arizona. He returned home for a few years, working at Westinghouse in Reform, Alabama, and in 1960 he moved to Lomita, California where he worked for Quan Quan Imports. He earned a degree in teaching of the orthopedically handicapped in 1968, a specialty in secondary education in 1970, and a junior college specialty in 1971. He was employed by Gardenia (Calif.) High School for 27 years where he retired in June 1995. In 1998, he returned to his hometown where he enjoyed his family, friends, community, and his computer. He will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aliceville Prisoner of War Museum, Aliceville Public Library, or a charity of one's choice .
